I.Entry to China

1. Can the international students come to China this September semester for registration and study as usual?

Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) will offer both online and offline courses this coming semester as scheduled. Because of the complicated situation of Covid-19, it is more likely that those who are now in the mainland of China are expectedly to take the offline courses, while those who are outside of Chinese mainland are NOT allowed to come to China at this period of time due to the restriction on traveling and entry, instead, they may take online courses to start the new semester.

2. When can I get my Admission Notice and JW202/201 form?

XJTU will provide E-admission Notice for new students to confirm their admission status. JW202/201 will not be issued for the moment.

II.Registration

3. What are the registration dates for new international students?

The registration dates for new international students are estimated around middle of September. No matter where you are, you are required to refer to our coming NOTICE FOR NEW INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS REGISTRATION to confirm the exact registration dates and requirements.

4. How to do the registration when I am outside of Chinese mainland?

XJTU will organize online registration for those who are outside of Chinese mainland. Please wait for further notice on registration and keep connected by internet.

5. I’m in Chinese mainland, but I don’t want to come to the University for Registration. May I do online registration and take online courses?

Those who are in Chinese mainland should come to XJTU in person for offline registration and courses providing that you strictly follow the regulations of Chinese government’s Covid-19 control and prevention as well as requirements in NOTICE FOR NEW INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS REGISTRATION . Further notice is still expected just in case.

6. What should I prepare for registration?

No matter you do your registration online or offline, it is compulsory to provide your original degree and its notarized copy for XJTU to check and verify. Please prepare the documents in advance.

7. Due to some special circumstances, I cannot register online or offline as required, what should I do?

When you receive XJTU’s NOTICE FOR NEW INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS REGISTRATION and find that you cannot register as required indeed, you should contact the teacher whose information is at the end of the Admission Notice at least 5 working days before the registration dates to get things confirmed. Failing to do registration within 2 weeks without XJTU’s permission will be regarded as give-up admission and scholarship.

III.Visa

8. I am in the mainland of China now and my visa is about to expire. May I come in advance to XJTU to register and extend my residence permit?

No. You shall not come to the University for registration until you have been officially notified by the University. We are not able to extend residence permits for students who are not registered. And even if you come to the University without permission, we could not accept your application.

9.I am in the mainland of China and my visa is still valid. Will my visa get extension after I come to XJTU and complete the registration procedures as required?

If your visa is still valid for more than 10 working days when you come to the University as required, we could help you to extend your residence permit for study. However, you must ensure that the type of current visa you hold can be changed to a study residence permit in Xi'an. Due to the territorial management nature of the visa administration and the different methods of implementation of local immigration authorities, please consult the Xi'an Public Security Bureau to make sure if the type of your current visa can be changed.

10.I am in the mainland of China and I have a valid study residence permit right now. May I come to the University with this permit?

If you currently hold a study permit visa, which is also valid, you may come to the University in accordance with the requirements of XJTU’s NOTICE FOR NEW INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS REGISTRATION.After your registration is completed, we will assist you to apply for the extension of your residence permit according to the requirements of the Entry-exit Department of Xi'an Public Security Bureau. It should be noted that, according to the requirements of the Entry-exit Department of the Xi'an Public Security Bureau, you need to provide the performance certificate of your previous school.

IV. Scholarship

11. I am a scholarship student and complete the registration according to the requirements of the university. What about my scholarship?

Students go through the registration formalities offline according to the requirements of the university and their scholarship will be normally executed in accordance with relevant regulations of the scholarship.

Students complete the registration online and their living allowance will start to be given after they enter into China as required and pass the relevant qualification examination.
