2026 Pre-university Foundation Programs of Xi’an Jiaotong University

Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), founded in 1896, is a national key university directly under the administration of China's Ministry of Education. As one of China's top ten research-intensive universities and a member of the C9 League—China's equivalent of the Ivy League—it operates as a comprehensive research university, encompassing 11 major disciplinary categories, including science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, humanities, law, philosophy, art, education, and interdisciplinary studies. Nearly 4,000 international students from over 130 countries and regions are currently pursuing their studies at XJTU. In 2013, the university was designated by China's Ministry of Education as a “Demonstration Base for International Education”. In 2024, XJTU achieved the highest rating of Class A+ in the re-certification of higher education quality for international students in China. In the 2025 Shanghai Ranking’s Academic Ranking of Chinese Universities, XJTU secured the 10^thposition.

I.Program Introduction

1.International Foundation Program (IFP)

XJTU offers International Foundation Programs (11/18/36 weeks) to high school and equivalent level graduates. These programs are designed to enhance students’ competitiveness for admission to prestigious universities.

2.“1+4” Foundation-Bachelor Program

XJTU offers “1+4” Foundation-Bachelor Program (11/18/36 weeks) for outstanding high school and equivalent level graduates, aiming to help applicants advance their knowledge structure. Applicants will be informed of their eligibility for undergraduate studies and scholarship types through a comprehensive review prior to their Foundation Program. Upon successful completion of the foundation program, students who have demonstrated Chinese language proficiency equivalent to Level 4 of theChinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages(HSK 4) will be eligible for direct admission to undergraduate studies without further review or an interview. Those who fail to meet this language requirement will be disqualified from the bachelor program.

II.Program Features

The International Foundation Program Center, School of International Education of Xi’an Jiaotong University offers a wide variety of customized courses for international students who are planning to pursue Chinese-taught bachelor degrees in China. It equips students with the necessary preparation for further academic pursuits within a dynamic and supportive university environment.

The center implements small-class teaching, with students divided into classes based on their intended majors and current Chinese language proficiency. Through 36-week, 18-week, or 11-week program formats, the program is designed to help international students develop foundational Chinese language skills, academic Chinese tailored to specific disciplines, core subject knowledge, and cross-cultural communication competence—laying a solid groundwork for their subsequent degree studies.

Additionally, the center provides international students with a suite of guidance services, such as visa application assistance, consultations on admission and scholarship policies, guidance on application procedures, lectures on university academic life, and recommendations for partner universities. These services create favorable conditions to facilitate international students’ successful enrollment in Chinese universities.

3.High school/ senior secondary diploma or equivalent (Graduating students can apply with their transcript of mock examination）

VI.Application Documents

All documents must be complete, authentic, and accurate, and may be submitted in either Chinese or English.

1.Scanned copy of valid ordinary foreign passport

2.Original and notarized copies of senior high school graduation diploma, either in Chinese or English

3.Original and notarized copies of high school academic transcripts and University Entrance Examination transcripts, including courses taken and scores achieved

4.Chinese language certificate such as HSK, HSKK (applicants whose mother tongue is Chinese are exempt from the HSK requirement upon approval by XJTU)

5.A recommendation letter written by high school headmaster or teachers(Signature, email and phone number of the refereeshould be included.)

6.Study plan written in English or Chinese with no less than 600 characters or words

7.Physical Examination Record for Foreigner (download fromhttps://sie.xjtu.edu.cn/en/Application_Guide/Data_Download.htm, must be completed in Chinese or English. All required examinations must be taken. Forms without the doctor’s signature, hospital seal, or complete information will be considered invalid)

8.Non-criminal record with expiration date specified

9.Other supporting documents (if any)

VII.Application Procedure

1.Log in to the online application system of School of International Education of XJTU (http://isso.xjtu.edu.cn/recruit/login) and create your own account.

2.Select“预科项目/Pre-University Foundation Programs”, complete the online application form, and upload all the required documents as instructed by the system.

3.Pay the application fee (The system will automatically open the account for payment after you pass initial review.).

4.Confirm that the application is complete and await notification of the next steps.

Note：

a. Application fee is RMB 500.The application fee is non-refundable regardless of admission results.

b. Applications must be submitted exclusively through the online system; hard copies will not be accepted.
