Xi’an Jiaotong University International Postgraduate Programs 2027

Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), founded in 1896, is a national key university directly under the administration of China’s Ministry of Education. As one of China’s top ten research-intensive universities and a member of the C9 League—China’s equivalent of the Ivy League—it operates as a comprehensive research university, encompassing 11 major disciplinary categories, including science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, humanities, law, philosophy, art, education, and interdisciplinary studies. 4,484 international students from 128 countries and regions are pursuing their studies at XJTU. In 2013, the university was designated by China’s Ministry of Education as a “Demonstration Base for International Education”. In 2024, XJTU achieved the highest rating of Class A+ in the re-certification of higher education quality for international students in China. In the 2026 Best Chinese Universities Ranking, XJTU secured the 10th position.

I. Eligibility

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with valid ordinary passports;

2. Applicants must be in good health;

3. Applicants for a Master's degree must have a Bachelor's degree and be under 35 years of age.

Applicants for a Doctoral degree must have a Master's degree and be under 40 years of age;

4. Applicants may not receive any other types of scholarship.

II. Application Time

Scholarship Program: From now until 17:00 March 31, 2027 (Beijing Time);

Self-funded Program: From now until 17:00 May 15, 2027 (Beijing Time) .

Ⅲ. Application Procedure

Step 1. (Students applying CSC program start from step 1; students not applying for CSC start from step 2)

Step 2. Online application at Xi’an Jiaotong University’s International Student Application System at http://isso.xjtu.edu.cn/recruit/login

Step 3. Pay the application fee.

(The university will send a Payment Notice for Application through the system information/email to those who pass the initial review.)

Step 4. Application complete.

Students should pay close attention to the application system and registered email; follow up on the latest information such as academic review, pre-admission review, tuition payment and acceptance information, etc.

NOTES:

a) The application fee is non-refundable.

b) Online application is the only way to submit the application. Hard copies are unacceptable.

IV. Application Documents

All documents must be complete, true, and correct in either Chinese or English.

1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (Students applying CSC program)

2. XJTU Application Form for International Students

Automatically formed after online application in XJTU system.

3. Completed Original Physical Examination Record for Foreigners and Blood Test Report

The physical examination must cover ALL the items listed in the form. (Download at https://sie.xjtu.edu.cn/en/2.pdf and fill in Chinese or English.) The forms with incomplete records or without the suggestion and signature of the attending physician, an official cross-edge stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicant are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take a physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.

4. Original Non-criminal Record within the validity period

5. Original Highest Diploma and Its Notarized Copies (Prospective diploma winners must submit an official certificate from their current university.) Doctoral applicants must submit original and notarized undergraduate and master’s degree certificates together.

6. Original and notarized copies of transcripts since undergraduate period

The transcript should include the grades of undergraduate, Master’s (if any), Doctoral (if any) period of study up to the most recent semester. The transcript should be issued and stamped by the Academic Affairs Office, Graduate School or the relevant student administration department of the school.

7. Recommendation Letters

Two original recommendation letters written by professors or associate professors. If applicants have already received provisional acceptance from professors at XJTU, please provide Xi’an Jiaotong University Recommendation Letter from a Potential Supervisor as one of the two recommendation letters. 8. A Study Plan or Research Proposal

Applicants must submit a written study plan or research proposal in English or Chinese, with a minimum of 1000 words for a Master’s degree and 1500 words for a Doctoral degree.

9. Original Research Achievements and Notarized Copies

Applicants may submit published research papers, award certificates or other documents to prove their achievement and ability in academic research if any.

10. Certificate of Language Proficiency

English-taught programs: Transcript of IELTS 6.0 and above, TOEFL 80 and above, Duolingo 110 and above. Other language proficiency certificates are also acceptable upon approval by XJTU. * Please note that priority will be given to applicants for the Business Administration program with an IELTS score of 7.0 or above.

Chinese-taught programs: Report of a valid HSK4 180 points and above. Other language proficiency certificates are also acceptable upon approval by XJTU. Those who have taken Chinese-taught courses to obtain a Chinese university degree are exempt from the HSK certificate.

* Please note that applicants for the International Chinese Language Education program at the School of Foreign Languages must have the report of a valid HSK5 180 points and above.

To apply for the English-taught professional degree of Clinical Medicine master's program (including Stomatological Medicine), you must also provide a valid Chinese proficiency certificate in addition to the English proficiency certificate mentioned above.

The university may decide to add a one-year Chinese language study prior to the academic study according to the applicant's Chinese language proficiency. Only students who pass HSK4 could enter major study.

11. Photocopy of a Valid Ordinary Passport.

The passport should be valid later than March 2028. If you do not meet the requirements, please renew your passport in time. Passport information cannot be modified after admission until registration has been completed.

NOTES:

a) The materials uploaded in the system should be clear, true and valid. It is recommended that the applicant use professional equipment to scan the relevant documents to be submitted, and the consequences caused by unclear or unidentifiable materials shall be taken by the applicant.

b) Incomplete applications will be rejected.

c) No application documents mentioned above will be returned whether the application is successful or not.

d) Notarized Chinese/English versions are required for documents in languages other than the two.

2. Accommodation fee

Accommodation for international students is divided into three campuses: Xingqing, Yanta, and iHarbour, Accommodation will be uniformly arranged by the university according to the current policy annually. VI. Scholarships:

1. CSC-Chinese Government Scholarship

The scholarship covers tuition fees, free university dormitory, a monthly stipend, and comprehensive medical insurance.

The scholarship applies to the first year of the degree program. Tuition is fully or partially waived.

Program Scholarship

The scholarship funds are intended to be used for tuition fees, accommodation fees, living allowances, medical insurance, residence permit fees, and international travel expenses, and other related expenses.

VII. Admission Notification

1. Admission will be given to the outstanding candidates based on the comprehensive review results of application documents, interview, and (or) examinations, etc. The university will decide whether to grant a scholarship to the applicant and which scholarship or allowance level to grant according to the ranking of comprehensive review results as well as the seats of each scholarship in that year.

2. Make sure your email, telephone number, and postal address correctly be filled in the application system as they are key to getting you contacted during the admission process. Failure to respond to the university in time as required may lead to automatic rejection.

3. As a general rule, applicants are not allowed to change their study status information such as university, category, major, teaching language, study duration etc. once they get admitted.

4. The university will provide the Admission Notice, JW201/202 form (Confirmation Form for Study in China) for the admitted applicants to apply for X visa to come to China. Those who are with other types of visa will not be allowed for registration at XJTU.

5. Admitted applicants should register at XJTU strictly in accordance with the date, and place prescribed by the School of International Education , usually in September, and the specific time depends on the notice of that year. Failure to do so within two weeks will result in the admission and scholarship status being invalid.

6. At the time of registration, the school will make a qualification review to re-evaluate the eligibility of the student. As part of the qualification review, the school will recheck all the documents and personal information of the student, including identity information, original graduation and degree certificates, language proficiency certificates, etc. The school will also check the behavior of the student to ensure that they are a law-abiding citizen and have maintained good moral conduct before the registration period. Please bring the Original Highest Diploma and Original Physical Examination Record for Foreigners and Blood Test Report for registration. Those who fail to pass this qualification review will be disqualified from admission and scholarship status.
