Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), established in 1896, is a national key university directly under the administration of China’s Ministry of Education. As one of China’s top ten research-intensive universities and a member of the C9 League—China’s equivalent of the Ivy League—it operates as a comprehensive research university, encompassing 11 major disciplinary categories, including science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, humanities, law, philosophy, art, education, and interdisciplinary studies.
Nearly 4,000 international students from over 130 countries and regions are currently pursuing their studies at XJTU. In 2013, the university was designated by China’s Ministry of Education as a “Demonstration Base for International Education”. In recent national accreditation, XJTU was awarded as A+ grade(the highest)in the Re-accreditation of the International Education Quality organized by MOE among 894 Chinese Higher Education Institutions, one of the only three universities with the honor. In the 2025 Shanghai Ranking’s Academic Ranking of Chinese Universities, XJTU secured the 10th position.

I. Application Deadline

II. Eligibility
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid ordinary passport;
2. Applicants must be in good health;
3. Applicants for a Master's degree program must have a Bachelor's degree and be under 35 years of age,
Applicants for a Doctoral degree program must have a Master's degree and be under 40 years of age;
4. Applicant’s home university must have signed DDP agreement with XJTU, and the agreement must be still in force.
5. Applicants must meet other requirements that agreed between XJTU and the home university.
III. Application Procedure
Step 1.
Applicant should contact with home university in advance to confirm if home university has a valid DDP agreement with XJTU. If so, the applicant should get a nomination from the home university.
Step 2.
The home university shall submit an official Nomination List (including name, passport number, program to apply for in XJTU system) to XJTU at least one month before the application deadline. Meanwhile, the applicants who are on the Nomination List can submit their application to XJTU online athttps://isso.xjtu.edu.cn/recruit/login

Step 3.
School of International Education of XJTU will process the application according to the Nomination List provided by the coordinator of XJTU. Applicants should pay close attention to the application system and the registered email; and follow up on the latest information such as academic review, pre-admission review, tuition payment (if any), acceptance information, etc.
NOTES:
a)The application fee is 500RMB which is non-refundable. Applicants for DDP will be exempted from the application fee upon receiving of the nomination list of the home university.
b)Online application is the only way to submit the application. Hard copies are unacceptable.
IV. Application Documents
All documents must be complete, true, and correct in either Chinese or English.

2. Completed Original Physical Examination Record for Foreigners and Blood Test Report
The physical examination must cover ALL the items listed in the form. (Download athttp://sie.xjtu.edu.cn/en/2.pdfand fill in Chinese or English.)The forms with incomplete records or without the suggestion and signature of the attending physician, an official cross-edge stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicant are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take a physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.
3. Original Non-criminal Record within the validity period
It should be issued by the local police or Judicial department. A behavior performance certificate issued by Home University is also acceptable.
4.Original Highest Diploma and Its Notarized Copies
Original Highest Diploma and its Notarized Copies. Prospective diploma winners must submit an official certificate from their home university.
5. Original and notarized copies of transcripts since the undergraduate period
The transcript should include the grades of undergraduate, Master’s (if any), Doctoral (if any) period of study up to the most recent semester. The transcript should be issued and stamped by the Academic Affairs Office, Graduate School or the relevant student administration department of the school.
6. Recommendation Letters
Two original recommendation letters written by professors or associate professors. If applicants have already received provisional acceptance from professors at XJTU, please provideXi’an Jiaotong UniversityRecommendation Letterfrom a Potential Supervisoras one of the two recommendation letters. 7. A Study Plan or Research Proposal
Applicants must submit a written study plan or research proposal in English or Chinese, with a minimum of 1000 words for a Master's degree and 1500 words for a Doctoral degree.

8. Original Research Achievements and Notarized Copies
Applicants may submit published research papers, award certificates or other documents to prove their achievement and ability in academic research if any.
9. Certificate of Language Proficiency
English-taught programs: Transcript of IELTS 6.0 and above, TOEFL 80 and above,Duolingo 110 and above. Other language proficiency certificates are also acceptableupon approval by XJTU.
Chinese-taught programs: Report of a valid HSK4 180 points and above. Other language proficiency certificates are also acceptable upon approval by XJTU. Those who have taken Chinese-taught courses to obtain a Chinese university degree are exempt from the HSK certificate.
To apply for the English-taught professional degree of Clinical Medicine master's program (including Stomatological Medicine), you must also provide a valid Chinese proficiency certificate in addition to the English proficiency certificate.
The university may decide to add a one-year Chinese language study prior to the academic study according to the applicant’s Chinese language proficiency. Only students who reach the standard of language proficiency could enter major study.
10. Photocopy of a Valid Ordinary Passport.
The passport should be valid later than March 2027. If you do not meet the requirements, please renew your passport in time.
NOTES:
a) The materials uploaded in the system should be clear, true and valid. It is recommended that applicants use professional equipment to scan the relevant documents to be submitted, and applicants shall take the consequences caused by unclear or unidentifiable materials.
b) Incomplete Applications will be rejected.
c) No application documents mentioned above will be returned whether the application is successful or not.
d) Notarized Chinese/English versions are required for documents with languages other than the two.
V. Admission Notification
1. Admission will be given to the outstanding candidates based on the comprehensive review results of application documents, interview, and (or) examinations, etc. Tuition, accommodation, and other fees will abide by the DDP agreement that XJTU signed with the applicant’s home university.
2. Make sure your email, telephone number, and postal address correctly be filled in the application system as they are key to getting you contacted during the admission process. Failure to respond to the university in time as required may lead to automatic rejection.
3. As a general rule, applicants are not allowed to change their study status information such as university, category, major, teaching language, study duration etc. once they get admitted.
4. The university will provide the Admission Notice, JW202 form (Confirmation Form for Study in China) for the admitted applicants to apply for X visa to come to China. Those who are with other types of visas will not be allowed for registration at XJTU.
5. Admitted applicants should register at XJTU strictly in accordance with the date, and place prescribed on the Admission Notice (usually in September, and the specific time depends on the admission letter). Failure to do so within two weeks will result in the admission being invalid.
6. At the time of registration, the school will make a qualification review to re-evaluate the eligibility of the student. As part of the qualification review, the school will recheck all the documents and personal information of the student, including identity information, original graduation and degree certificates, language proficiency certificates, etc. The school will also check the behavior of the student to ensure that they are a law-abiding citizen and have maintained good moral conduct before the registration period. Please bring the Original Highest Diploma and Original Physical Examination Record for Foreigners and Blood Test Report for registration. Those who fail to pass this qualification review will be disqualified from admission status.
7. Once admitted, passport information must not be changed until the completion of enrollment registration.
