Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), founded in 1896, is a national key university directly under the administration of China's Ministry of Education. As one of China's top ten research-intensive universities and a member of the C9 League—China's equivalent of the Ivy League—it operates as a comprehensive research university, encompassing 11 major disciplinary categories, including science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, humanities, law, philosophy, art, education, and interdisciplinary studies. Nearly 4,000 international students from over 130 countries and regions are currently pursuing their studies at XJTU. In 2013, the university was designated by China's Ministry of Education as a "Demonstration Base for International Education". In 2024, XJTU achieved the highest rating of Class A+ in the re-certification of higher education quality for international students in China. In the 2025 Shanghai Ranking's Academic Ranking of Chinese Universities, XJTU secured the 10th position.
Xi'an Jiaotong University, Hainan (hereinafter referred to as the "XJTU Hainan") is located in Hainan Lingshui Li'an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone (hereinafter referred to as the "Pilot Zone"), situated on Lingshui Li'an Peninsula and adjacent to the renowned resort city - Sanya. The area benefits from convenient transportation and a pleasant climate with mild winters free from extreme cold. Jointly developed by the Ministry of Education of China and the People's Government of Hainan Province, the Pilot Zone covers a planned area of 12.72 square kilometers. As of March 2026, a total of 26 prestigious Chinese and international universities have signed agreements with the Pilot Zone.
I. Program Introduction
The Chinese Language Program at XJTU Hainan is designed to build a solid foundation in Chinese language and communication skills for international students. The curriculum incorporates Chinese culture into language teaching, fostering students' intercultural competence. It also aims to enhance students' performance on the HSK examination.

● Curriculum
The course consists of 18-20 teaching hours per week.
1. Core Course: Comprehensive Chinese, Chinese Speaking &Listening, and Reading & Writing.
2. Elective Course: Chinese Character Writing, Chinese Orthography, Calligraphy, Culture & Tourism Chinese, HSK Tutoring, etc. The Pilot Zone has simultaneously opened a selection of shared general education courses. The detailed course schedule will be released prior to the start of the semester.
3. Chinese Language & Cultural Immersion Activities and Diversified Competitive Events.
●Program Level
To accurately assess the Chinese language proficiency of international students, the School of International Education will administer a placement test prior to the start of classes. Based on the test results, students will be placed in classes that match their proficiency levels. The Chinese language courses are categorized into three levels: elementary, intermediate, and advanced.

● Textbooks:Chinese Course (the 3rd edition),Developing Chinese (the 2nd edition), HSK Standard Course, self-compiled textbooks and handouts.
● Assessment: Student performance will be assessed through written and oral examinations, coursework, and class participation. The final grade is composed of approximately 50% continuous assessment, 40% final examination, and 10% attendance and classroom performance.
II. Program Advantages / Features
● Certificate of completion: A formal transcript and certificate of completion will be issued to students who have successfully completed their courses.

VII. Application Documents
1. Valid ordinary passport (must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of enrollment)
2. Original Non-criminal Record within the validity period
3. Highest diploma (Chinese/English version)
4. Completed Original Physical Examination Record for Foreigners and Blood Test Report
The physical examination must cover ALL the items listed in the form. (Download at http://sie.xjtu.edu.cn/en/2.pdf and fill in Chinese or English.) The forms with incomplete records or without the suggestion and signature of the attending physician, an official cross-edge stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicant are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take a physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.
5. Chinese or English Certificate of Language Proficiency (if have)

VIII. Application Procedure
1. Log in to the online application system of School of International Education of XJTU (http://isso.xjtu.edu.cn/recruit/login) and create your own account.
2. Select“汉语进修项目/Chinese Language Program”, complete the online application form, and upload all the required documents as instructed by the system.
3. Pay the application fee. The system will automatically open the account for payment after you pass initial review.
4. Confirm that the application is complete and await notification of the next steps.
Note:
a. Application fee is RMB 500 (self-funded applicants), RMB 800 (scholarship applicants). The application fee is non-refundable regardless of admission results.
b. Applications must be submitted exclusively through the online system; hard copies will not be accepted.
